One of my first trips outside Europe was many years ago. I went to Tunisia. I didn't have much experience and just booked a package on the Internet that included flight and 7 nights in a hotel. Once there, I decided to book a 3-day tour accross the country to see a little bit of it. It was a bit expensive but I thought it would be worth it.
The result was that I didn't enjoy it at all. I didn't like going with a big group of people in a bus stopping in places not chosen by me, not having free time because we had to rush somewhere else, having meals in restaurants chosen for me instead of by me and the same happened with hotels. Of course I didn't have to worry about anything and there were places I really liked. But I felt I had no freedom, I felt like being in a school trip and I didn't like that.
One day I took a train on my own to visit some city. I did everything on my own and stayed there as much as I wanted, visiting what I wanted and eating where I wanted. It was the best day of all the trip by far. So that day I decided it was the last time I was going on an organised tour. And it was indeed.
I thought I could organise much better trips and cheaper ones, so for my following trip I started searching on the net for everything myself and booking everything on my own. From then on, I've organised all my trips, from short weekend trips all over Europe, to a two-month trip in Africa or a five-month trip overland from Europe to Asia, and I can say it really makes a difference whether you go on a traditional organised trip or on a taylor-made trip.
Now, after a few years and plenty of different trips and experience, I would like to help other travellers with all what is involved in organising a trip so they can have a much better experience than with a traditional organised trip.

Before the appearance of the Internet, most of the people willing to travel had no other option but to go to a travel agency to arrange a trip for them. They got flight tickets, hotels, insurance, even a guide if needed. But it was extremely expensive, so only a few could afford going on big trips.
Since the appearance of the Internet, though, things have changed quite a bit. You can now find travel agencies on the net so there is no need to go physically to the agency anymore. Still, prices are quite expensive and everything is quite limited: dates, lenghth of trip, prices, places to visit...
But the best thing the Internet has to offer us is that you can be your own travel agent. This means you can organise your own taylor-made trip for the dates you want, the lenght you want, the places you want... everything as you want and without paying extra fees to anyone. In the end you get a much better trip because it is your own trip: nobody tells you what to visit and what not to, how much time you shoud spend in every place, in what hotels you should stay... and best of it, from my own experience, the same trip it is always much cheaper than with a travel agency. Actually still a lot of people think going on big trips is extremely expensive, but if you spend a bit of time on the net looking for everything in the end travelling is an activity for every budget.
The downside is that you need quite a lot of time to search on the net for flights, for visas, accomodation, information on what to visit, etc... You also need to know where to look for everything, and that's why still a lot of people are going to traditional travel agencies to have their trips arranged: because they don't have time, knowledge or they simply hate all the pre-trip hassle.

This means I will not charge you at all for my help, I will do all the work and provide you with all the links, guidelines and everything you need so you can book flights, accomodation and everything by yourselves.
